Trauma comes in many forms and can affect both adults and children. It can stem from natural disasters, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence, accidents, war, medical complications, loss of loved ones, experiencing or witnessing a violent criminal act, witnessing or experiencing substance abuse, and many other causes.
Symptoms can include isolation, anxiety, guilt, avoiding certain situations, nightmares or flashbacks, anger, aggression, sleep disturbances, “acting out” (in children), inability to concentrate, fear, tearfulness, and more. At LWL, treatment of trauma is tailored to the individual’s experiences, needs, and strengths. People who have experienced traumatic events can heal, grow, and thrive. Treatment is individualized to help clients connect, feel validated, and gain a sense of empowerment and hope.
