I enjoy working with clients to look at thought and behavior patterns to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth.  I tend to match well with clients who are exploring goals and challenges in areas such as work, school, family, & relationships.  I also match well with clients who struggle with self-harm and frequent hospitalization.  My approach is behavioral and solution-focused, and primarily pulls from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT®).

I really enjoy working with clients using DBT® because of the collaborative nature.  There is so much feedback woven into this type of therapy that really propels growth when we are both able to be genuine and willing while learning new skills to tolerate difficult situations without making things harder.  Many clients say learning the skills can be like learning a new language, especially within families and relationships.  I really value experiencing those epiphanies with clients when we find new perspectives and alternative ways to understand and interact with the world around us that make life a little easier.

I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT®) through Marsha Linehan’s Behavioral Tech, LLC institute.  DBT® (read more here) is a well-researched protocol that has been shown to help reduce problematic thoughts and behaviors in clients’ lives mostly through skill acquisition.  It requires commitment from both the therapist and the client to really maximize its effectiveness, and we learn together how to support and challenge genuine therapeutic change.
